Annual crop
All cereal crops are annual crops. An annual crop is one that live for one year or one season. After annual crops have been harvested, the land and which they are grown must be ploughed up and the seeds of a new crop planted.
Winter crop
Wheat is a winter cereal crop. This means that it grows during the winter and spring months. It ripens to be harvested during the early summer.
Grain,chaff
Wheat is harvested for the see or grain in the heads. The seeds (or grain) are then separated from the rest of the plant. Usually only the grain is kept. The chaff or husks are discarded. But in some areas the wheat straw may also be cut and used to make wall panels for buildings
Flour
From wheat comes flour. Flour is use to make bread, cakes, biscuits, noodles and breakfast cereals. Wheat is therefore very important. it provides much the basic food that we eat.
